Privacy in the European Framework

The course will address the regulation of privacy with a particular emphasis on the comparison of the European framework with the American one. Moreover it will be explored the idea of “privacy by design”,  to embed data protection safeguards in ICT and other types of technology: a typical instance is given by the processing of patient names in hospitals via information systems. Finally, issues concerning the privacy in relation with the world wide web and search engines will be discussed.
